I Love Markdown
I recently read this blogpost by Mat Duggan and it reminded me of how much I love markdown. If you want to just write something, it's so much easier to use than HTML, LaTeX, or XML. It just gets out of your way and lets you do your thing.
I actually almost created this blog on bear blog in part because it uses markdown but I want a tad more customizability.
I think I'd be in heaven if I could just host markdown files for my notes... But I'd need to use JS. Blegh. I'd like to avoid using it if I don't need to.
HTML, like markdown, will be usable in like 100 years. Will JS? It's less likely. So at least this way, if a historian (for some reason) wants to read my page in the future, they'll be able to. Ditto for anyone with text-only browsers and whatnot. It'll be (at least mostly) viewable on anything, anywhere, any time. So long as you have the files or an internet connection. I think that's cool.
